Ocean sunfish

The ocean sunfish is a large fish that can grow up to 4 meters in length, 6 meters in withers height, and weigh up to 3 tons. They are in fact related to blowfish – they both belong to the order Tetraodontiformes. They lay more eggs than any other fish (up to 300,000,000 eggs at one time). However, most of the eggs are eaten by other fish as they grow, and only two or three survive to become adult sunfish.

What is the sheet in the tank for?

Have you noticed that our tank for ocean sunfish has a clear plastic sheet that goes around the tank? No other tanks but the tank for ocean sunfish have this.

What is this for? Ocean sunfish are very sensitive to external stimuli, and when surprised, they could collide with the tank wall. This could result in fatal injury due to the impact caused by their huge and heavy body. To prevent possible injuries, this plastic sheet is installed along with the tank wall to buffer the impact of the collision on sunfish.

Ocean sunfish usually swim slowly but could swim very fast and even break this sheet with their amazingly powerful body.
